STARKEY Z SERIES

THE NEXT GENERATION OF STARKEY TECHNOLOGY

Starkey has just recently released it latest product line in the 'Z' Series™. The entire product line is wireless utilizing the 900 MHz frequency for its connectivity. Starkey claims that his frequency range will provide benefits in comfort and functionality. The primary areas of focus for Starkey as it uses 900MHz technology are better conversation and discrimination in noise, Loud and soft sound management and streaming of telephone and TV. In addition, connectivity to wireless devices has also been a priority. Carefree connectivity is claimed by Starkey for its Surflink® Mobile 2, Surflink Media and Surflink Remote. If you're not familiar with these devices, they function as follows:

  • Surflink Mobile: A premium multi-function wireless product that acts as a cell phone transmitter, assistive listening device, media streamer and hearing aid remote control.
  • Surflink Media: A streaming device for TV's and other devices like MP3 players and the like.
  • Surflink Remote: A handheld remote control used to manipulate the hearing aid

The selection of a hearing aid depends not only on the audiology and budget, but lifestyle as well. The new product line is available in five performance levels comprised of the following:

  • Economy Technology: Signified by the i20 model
  • Basic Technology: Signified by the i30 model
  • Select Technology: Signified by the i70 model
  • Advanced Technology: Signified by the i90 model
  • Premium Technology: Signified by the i110 model

Each performance level contains more features as the technology ladder is climbed. The more features, the more efficient the instrument in a wider array of listening situations. Add to this selection a variety of styles and colors of both behind-the-ear and in-the-ear and Starkey presents as having a solution for just about everyone.

Starkey's market research has guided them to what they feel are the primary "wants" by the consumer using hearing aids: to hear comfortably in noisy setting; to provide better high pitch hearing for better clarity; to transition seamlessly as new sounds are encountered from one situation to another; to be able to "personalize" the instruments for comfort; to eliminate feedback; to be sure the instruments are durable and dependable; provide personalized tinnitus relief for sufferers; and dependable wireless connectivity. To satisfy these "wants" as best as possible, Starkey Z Series products contain some or all of the following attributes depending on technology level:

  • Channels: Available in 16, 12, 8, 6 and 4 channels relative to performance level
  • Acuity Directionality™: Aimed at better speech discrimination in noise and paired with the Speech ID feature.
  • Voice IQ²: For noise reduction strength
  • Spatial Mapping: For directionality in noise
  • Frequency Shifting: Relocates inaudible high frequency sounds to lower pitch frequencies that audible to the patient so they may be heard.
  • Acclimatization: Helps the user's transition to instruments with a stepped approach thus allowing for the instruments and the user to learn new sounds.
  • Sound Comfort: helps maintain soft sound audibility in loud surroundings.
  • Feedback Cancellation: Prevents annoying buzzing or whistling commonly associated with hearing aids in the past.
  • Hydrashield²®: A moisture barrier system to ensure continuous operation in all conditions.
  • Tinnitus Technology: Multiflex programmable technology aimed at tinnitus relief.

All of these components working in concert make Starkey a viable choice amongst the premium manufacturers. One quality that is often overlooked is the fact that Starkey hearing aids are made in the U.S.A. and its owner does philanthropic work world-wide donating hearing aids to the poor and disenfranchised in places like Africa and South America. Worth mentioning a caring and giving CEO.

Working in consert with the new Z products, are a host of accessory devices in the SURFLINK family to make life easier for listing to TV or understanding in a crowd.
